Sun Your Buns Design

An all-time favorite project of mine challenged me with the task of redesigning the logo of a company local to Columbia, South Carolina. I chose Sun Your Buns, a local tanning salon that many students frequent to as my subject. I took their outdated logo and turned it into something happy and inviting. Throughout the process, I made sure that the tone remained fun, beachy, and warm, just like a great tan. Once finishing the logo design, I created business cards along with two punch cards that serve as a rewards program for loyal customers to ensure higher rate of returns. Finally, I created an animated commercial following the new branding concept.

A new skill I’ve been working on recently is animation, and I’ve quickly become a fan of Adobe Animate and After Effects. To hone this skill, I took my Sun Your Buns logo redesign project and turned it into a short animation to give even more personality to the tanning salon’s brand. This project tested my patience and creativity as I had to think of ways to animate with the same beachy and warm personality I’d been aiming for in my original logo design.
